Pilates is a mat based exercise class that follows specific principles set out by Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates developed his exercises by extracting elements from numerous sports such as gymnastics, boxing and weight lifting. Originally entitling his method as 'Contrology'.
Joseph's main aim was to improve strength and mobility to overcome his own ill health, an endeavor that he was largely successful with until his death in 1967.
Pilates, as its now know has
been developed further and incorporates over 600 exercises which have been adapted using the original 34 exercises introduced by Joseph Pilates.
Pilates is a low impact class suited to all abilities, from total beginners to advanced users. Different levels and adaptations are offered for each exercise so everyone, regardless of experience level can participate.
The aim of the exercises is to strengthen and elongate muscle groups whilst engaging the core.
Stability and mobilization of the major joints and muscles are focused on, to increase range of movement, provide injury rehabilitation and promote general wellbeing.
Pilates uses a holistic approach where you can take time out for yourself to enhance both your physical and mental state of mind.
